grateful heart

Starting my week out with a grateful heart always prepares my heart for the upcoming week!  This week I am so grateful for freedom.  I've been thinking a lot about it since we just celebrated our county's day of independence on Friday.  As I've grown older I've realized independence is so much more than "living in a country that's free."

In our world today, I'm so grateful that I can worship how I choose.  No one can take that away from me.  I realize every day how incredibly blessed I am by that freedom.  So many people around the world...women around the world...don't have that freedom.  I know it's one I often take for granted.

I am also so thankful for freedom from slavery.  And not just Civil War slavery, but human trafficking slavery.  I can't even imagine being in a place in my life that survival would literally mean selling Claire to someone.  Or selling myself in order to "provide" for my family.  My heart breaks for parents around the world who are so scared for their lives that they literally consider the option of selling their children.  I can't even imagine that feeling of helplessness.

I'm grateful today that I have the freedom to choose what kind of education my daughter will have.  We both get to be apart of an incredible school....a school of choice!...a place where kindergartners are taught the Preamble of the Constitution (yes, my child can say it, it's adorable), where songs about freedom are sung daily, where she's challenged every day to live a life of character, a place that takes education to the next step, challenging and motivating students to think and live outside the box.  And I'm grateful that this is the same school where I get to teach!

My heart has been stirring about these things the past few days...and I'm sure the 4th of July had something to do with it.  But I'm grateful for these heart stirrings.

"I'm so grateful that I can worship how I choose" - my mom and I talked about that all weekend! We are SO blessed. This is a great post - definitely got me thinking about what freedom in the US really is - all that it encompasses!
