maui

We've been back from Maui for almost two weeks now and as good as it feels to be home, I wish we were still in Paradise.  There's just something about the warm bluish-green water, fresh fruit, and hot humid sun that instantly makes me relax.  We went with Steve's parents, who graciously shared a beach condo with us.  It was the perfect place to stay...gorgeous views of the water, palm trees swaying in the wind, A/C, and a quick drive to all the tourist attractions, you know, like the mall and Costco.

As soon as we got to our condo, we went straight to the sandy beach and into the water.  It was the perfect little beach for us (Claire), because the waves were tiny and it wasn't very crowded.  We body boarded, snorkeled, and played in the small waves.  When we were tired and our fingers and toes too wrinkly, we relaxed in the warm sand.  This is how we spent many of our days and our nights were spent eating fresh fish, fruit, salads, and amazing desserts.

Of all the places we could've gone on vacation, I'm so thankful it was Maui.  Claire ended up sick from day two through the end of our vacation.  She was able to relax, sleep on the beach (one of my all time favorite things!), sleep in, and fall asleep at dinner almost every night.  She did get some time to play in the ocean and pool, although I'm sure it didn't help her to feel any better!

Our last night on the island, we stayed at The Grand Wailea Resort and got to enjoy the water slides, swimming pools, and SPA!  It was fantastic!  I was so bummed that Claire was sick enough that she didn't want to go on the water slides on our last day.

Another highlight for me was getting to see one of my college BFF's and her hubs and kids.  Our kids swam and played and the adults got to have a night away for dinner and jacuzzi-ing.  She's the kind of friend who picks up right where we left off, loves my girl like her own, is real, and we love to laugh together.  So refreshing for my soul to get to spend that time with her.

My perfect vacation includes family, friends, good books, good food, lots of sunshine, no make-up, very few showers, sleeping in, staying up late, a little shopping, and just being.  That was exactly what this trip was for our family and it was the perfect kick-off to our summer break.

What a perfect holiday (besides poor Claire being sick!!) - relaxing time with your family, seeing an old friend, the beach and sun....sign me up! The photo of Claire in the flippers is just the cutest thing ever.
