essential oils || day 1

I've had several people ask me lately about essential oils, their benefits, and how our family uses them.  So I thought I'd share some of our faves.  Please keep in mind that when using oils on your kids, it is always best to dilute them when applying them topically (I usually use coconut oil).

We started using oils at the beginning of this year.  Claire was in kindergarten and I was teaching 4th grade.  So you can imagine all the germs we were around.  And I'm NOT one to take any medication unless we're really sick.  I started looking into oils as an alternative to over the counter meds and really liked what I was reading and hearing from others.  I went ahead and ordered the Premium Starter Kit through Young Living, and it has been one of the greatest things for our family as far as our health goes.

Thieves is one of those oils that we can't really live without.  We diffuse it when we're sick and I often put 1 drop on the bottoms of our feet for extra protection when we're headed out to germy environments, like school.

Thieves® was created based on research about four thieves in France who covered themselves with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague victims. This proprietary essential oil blend was university tested for its cleansing abilities. It is highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health.

I remember when hand sanitizers became a thing several years ago.  My mom, who's an RN, said right away that she didn't think it was a good thing to use on a regular basis because it will eventually break down parts of your immune system.  Well, she was correct, and many schools have stopped using them because they began to have breakouts of MRSA.  But sometimes hand sanitizers are just what you need to cleanse your hands, especially if there isn't any water and soap available for washing, like when you're at the beach, a park, running errands, camping, etc.  At the beginning of this summer, we started using Thieves Spray and Waterless Hand Purifier, and we LOVE them.  I keep them in my purse or beach bag and it's a quick easy way to sanitize when we're out and about.  I know they'll both be products that we'll use often during the school year.

Thieves® Spray is ideal for use on door handles, toilet seats, and any surface that needs cleansing to protect from dust, mold, and undesirable microorganisms. This small bottle is perfect for traveling or keeping in your purse or backpack.

Thieves® Waterless Hand Purifier is an all-natural hand purifier designed to cleanse and refresh the hands. Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier can be used by adults and children to keep hands clean and promote good hygiene, without the use of water. Dermatologist tested.

This is a pretty cool post, I feel like I've learned a lot about essential oils, especially because I know so little about them. I've used essential oils before when making sugar scrub soap cubes, but that was the extent of my knowledge with them. Also, wanted to let you know that the broadway show I saw this past weekend in NYC was A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder - it was SO good!

Oh I'm glad to hear it was so good! :) I just love NYC. Yes, I feel like I have so much to learn as well, but using EO's has been such a positive thing for my family, we'll never stop.

I've been hearing more and more about the essential oils, but i'm still not really too familiar with it. we haven't had too many issues with getting sick, but maybe once we have kids!

Hi Esther...Yes, they're definitely beneficial with kids, but I actually use them a ton, too! I use them for headaches, stomach aches, I use them in cooking, I put lemon oil in my water everyday, my husband uses them for pain relief for herniated disks, and I am almost constantly running my diffuser! I was a total skeptic when I started, but they've been great for our family. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

I know...I've been lazy with the oils this summer...today it's all been back on! And I literally just turned on my diffuser for the first time in 2 months just 3 minutes ago!! :)

They've actually been quite life changing for our family. I'm really glad we found out about them, as now we're slowly cutting meds out of our lives. :)

Well if you're going to have to test something, EO's are a great thing to test!!

My husband has been using oils on his herniated disks in his neck. He still takes meds, but a lot less now. I'm like you, I never take anything unless I absolutely have to. Oils have been such a better substitute...lavender and Peace & Calming to relax, peppermint for headaches, Frankenscence for any skin issues. My 6 year old requests them all the time!! They've really been great for our family. Let me know if you have any questions!!
