grateful heart

This week I am so grateful for my job.  I love being a teacher, but the part that is so wonderful about it is our school.  I teach at a charter school in San Diego.  At our school we know what it means to be an American and live a life of character.  At our school we value relationships, helping people, serving others, not just good grades.  I feel so blessed and privileged to get to be apart of this kind of community.

For 4 years I taught at this school as just a married lady.  But last year was my first teaching in this place as a mom.  It made me see the school through new eyes.  Claire had an incredible kinder experience.  Her teacher, Mrs. Todd, was one that I had taught 3rd grade with for 3 years and our family just loves her dearly.

This year, Claire has another amazing teacher and I am so thankful for her!  She's also pregnant, due 3 days after me, and when I walk by the classroom....yes, I spy...I cannot believe the amounts of physical energy she puts into every part of her day with the kids.  It's no wonder Claire is having the time of her life in class!  I am so grateful for her and for the love and care she puts into each part of her day of teaching.

I've always known our school was fantastic, but knowing it from a teacher perspective, as well as a mom's, makes it that much special to get to be apart of.  I'm grateful for the leadership of our school and how they lead with integrity.  I'm grateful for the opportunity to pour into so many lives on a daily basis, and actually make a difference.  I'm grateful that Claire loves going to school and is learning so much more than just ABC's and 123's.  I don't know if this will be our school through high school, or if it's just for a season, but I'm grateful to be apart of this place for now!

That is so great - for you to have a work environment like that but then to share it with Claire, too. This is truly going to shape her as she continues her education! (And you two are super cute in those pictures!)

Yes, it does!! She was dreading school before it started, and now that we're back, it;s like she can't get enough! Hopefully it stays that way all the way through high school!! :)

Thank you!! Honestly, I'm hoping I don't have to teach forever, but since I'm doing it, I'm so thankful we can be together!!

Isn't it a wonderful feeling sending your child off to a school that they love and the teachers are amazing? It's such a comfort. Just think...you are that special teacher to someone too!!

Oh I love this! I have always wanted to pursue teaching in high school. I don't have the energy for the little ones and I have such admiration for those of who you do. My initial focus was on 4th - 5th grade but after enough observations and student teaching there I knew they would eat me alive.

Thats so precious that you teach where your daughter goes. You get all the inside scoop! I know the charter school here are so involved in the kids lives. My sister in law is a 2nd grade teacher at a charter school and she treats her student like they are her own kids. I'm glad she is loving school!

How awesome to have your daughter in your school! My mom did the same :) She taught in my district her whole life - and once, due to my teacher falling incredibly ill, she was my longterm sub..! Charter schools are great. I would love to get my Bug into one when she's school age. It sounds like your school is truly amazing - lucky for you both!! :)
PS - the photo of you two in your matching chambray shirts is ADORABLE!!

It's so fun!! I love that I can spy on her during the day! When she was in half day kinder, she would come to my classroom during naptime and sleep. :)

YES!! I hope I am that person. And I love seeing my girl become so secure in who she is as she roams campus. I feel extremely blessed to get to be so much apart of what she does here everyday. :)

Charters really are amazing. I feel privileged to get to work with so many dedicated teachers who strive and love to make a difference. And being with my daughter is just an added bonus!

Yes!! We feel very blessed, although I'd have a hard time being Claire's teacher! I feel like I would be really hard on her. :)

I feel the same about our school. So grateful and feel so blessed to be there. Sometimes when I hear other moms complain at all I quickly realize that they haven't been to other schools to see the difference. I truly know the difference and very grateful to be where we are.
