my place

Everyone has a place.  You know what I mean...the place your heart yearns for when you're not there.  The place that fills you up when you are.  And most of the time you realize it's not the place that fills your soul, but the people you love this place with.  That place for me is Yosemite.

As a family, we've been camping there since I was about 12.  When I got married, I couldn't wait to take Steve to my place, in the hope that it would quickly turn into our place.  It definitely has.  And for the last 6 years, it's been the place we've taken Claire....and watched it become her place.

She's literally grown up there.  We first took her when she was 7 weeks old.  This was only an option because she started sleeping through the night at 5 weeks!  That was the best year.  Once she started walking...oh my...dirt in places you never want to get dirt.  But just look at that adorable face (above)!!

One of our favorite things to do there is ride bikes.  So.much.fun.  Like hours on end fun.  For the first 4 years of Claire's life we dragged her all around the valley in one of those bike trailers to get her to fall asleep.  Our other favorite thing is sitting by/in the river doing absolutely nothing but snacking, chatting, sleeping, reading, and snacking.

Up until just a couple years ago, my grandparents would make the trek up and stay for several days while we were there.  Grampa loved taking videos and Gramma loved just being with everyone.  Gosh, I miss her.  And I miss Claire being that little.

One year we braved going in October, which for these So Cal siblings was ridiculously cold.  Go ahead and make fun...we'll see who's laughing in January when some of you are blizzarding and we're beaching. :)  Seriously though, it was beautiful.  Crisp fall air, changing leaves.  Gorgeous.

This was the first summer in years we haven't spent a week at our place.  After my aunt's injury, we didn't know if she'd be able to go.  And before Gramma passed, we didn't know how long she'd still be around.  This year has definitely been a year of change for our family.  Mostly hard change.  But we still have our place.  The place where we ride, climb, relax, laugh, and play.  The place we all love.  And the place we can't wait to get back to.

Just about any place in Wyoming is beautiful! But when you can share it with the one you love, I don't know, it just seems even more beautiful. That will be amazing when you can take Adam there. Hope it's soon!! :) And then from there take a road trip to Yosemite!!

Oh Wow. I've never been--when I've lived in the USA, Yosemite was on precisely the opposite side of the country. My husband went a few times growing up, though, I think. It looks gorgeous. My family does have a special place like this, which generations of us have loved--it's always a top choice for vacations for me!

Where do you live?? Isn't it a wonderful thing to have a place you share with family? I love having a spot we don;t have to explain to each other. We just get it, and have the time of our lives when we're together there.
