grateful heart

mom, katie (sister), holly (sister), Gramma
Today would have been my Gramma's birthday.  Those of you who've been following along for awhile know that she passed away last May.  And I miss her.  So much.

But today I still celebrate her.  Her amazing life.  Her incredible legacy.

Last week I posted that my word for the year is give.  A huge part of why I chose that word has to do with my Gramma.  She was the best giver I've known.  And I've heard so many stories over the years of how her giving spirit has blessed so many.

I want to be like that.  Not for the credit.  Or for any glory for myself.  But being known as someone who gives is to be known for loving others more than yourself.  That's who my Gramma was.  She always put others before herself.  And so many people were blessed by that.

I'm so grateful that my Gramma was in my life for almost 35 years.  I'm grateful for so many lessons I learned from her...how to serve, how to garden, that burnt toast makes you sing better, how to kill snails with salt, how to make Christmas bread, how to drive a cushman, how to teach Sunday School...I could go on and on.  She was the best.

Happy Birthday Gramma!  I hope heaven celebrates you in a special way today!
