grateful heart

Claire got a "fancy" outfit for Julie to wear to the theater
Since Jude came into our lives, Steve and I have been trying to find ways and do things for Claire that make her feel like she's not forgotten!  After 6.5 years of being an only child, I can imagine she was feeling stressed about gaining a sibling (although she always said she was excited, we've seen other signs that have hinted at stress).  We decided we wanted to do something an all day show her that she's still our girl.  That her brother hasn't taken her place at all (even though he takes up so.much.time.).

So on Friday night we "gave" Claire one of her Christmas gifts. We took her out of school early, dropped Jude off at my parent's house, and drove to LA. First stop, the American Girl store. We spent a good 2 hours there (I loved every minute as much as Claire), and she carefully selected the things she wanted to purchase with the money she'd so carefully saved for months.  It was so fun to see her thinking through each little detail so carefully!

From there we went to the Pantages Theatre to see Wicked. We (Steve) were so excited to take her to see her first Broadway show! And let me tell you.....she's hooked (so proud!)!  She's already planning to go see Newsies & Annie. Ummm...doesn't take much arm twisting here!

Before we left Jude, Claire said she was excited to have a day with just mommy & daddy. But once we got to LA, she said at least 3 times that she missed her brother and wished he was with us! I love how much she loves him.  Clearly my heart is bursting with gratitude.  Some things I'm so grateful for:

- time with our girl
- parents who love to babysit
- Claire...she's the most fantastic 6 year old!
- the theater...and that we all love it!
- opportunities
- how much Claire loves Jude...sometimes she displays it a too forcefully, but the love can't be denied
- a husband who treats his daughter like a princess

What are you thankful for this week?  I'd love to hear!

Thank you!! We honestly haven't felt like great parents to Claire! Jude takes up so much time! But she loves him so much and doesn't seem to mind sharing us with him...PRAISE!!

This is so sweet Amy. I think it is such an indication of what lovely parents you are that you hold her emotions and feelings in such high regard even though she still young. They are so much more receptive than we give them credit for.

Thank you for saying that! Lately I've been feeling like a failure mom. I'm trying so hard with my girl, I know her heart needs to know how much I love her. But this day...I know this day filled her love tank up to almost overflowing. So grateful for that!!
