summer reading list

Summer + reading go together like peanut butter + jelly.  It hasn't always been this way in my life. Nope.  In college I took a reading hiatus.  I had too many textbooks, articles, and papers to read, reading for FUN was so not a thing.  And the hiatus lasted a couple years after college, too. BUT...now that I'm so much older and wiser, I LOVE to read.  I just don't get the chance to do it much during the school year.  So I keep a list of all the books I see during the year that I want to read. And the list is LONG...like there's over a hundred in my Amazon Wish List.  I have to narrow it down.  Which is hard! BUT...there are a few that I've been waiting patiently to read, so I'm finally getting to this summer. #yay.  Here's my list as it stands right now:

+ Bittersweet by Shauna Niequist.  I read this book a few years back, but have been seeing these threads in my life lately, so I'm going to go back and re-read this one.  I loved it the first time, and am looking forward to seeing what I take away from reading it this time.

+ Cold Tangerines by Shauna Niequist.  Haven't read it, but have heard so many good things.

+ Burnt Toast Makes You Sing Good by Kathleen Flynn.  I honestly know nothing about this book, but it's what my Gramma always told us growing up.  So of course I'm curious.

+ The Organic God by Margaret Feinberg.  I heard her speak at a conference I went to a few years ago and she was incredible.  After she spoke, I went to her table and bought all of her books!   I've read a few of them and have loved them.  I'm really looking forward to this one.

+ Breathing Room by Leeana Tankersley.  This girl is a gem.  We actually have several mutual friends and our paths cross from time to time.  Last summer I read Found Art and loved it.  I just love her writing style, and the way she puts her thoughts on paper.  I'm really looking forward to this read, especially since I now have some breathing room since school is out for the summer.

+ The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty.  I've just heard good things.  That's all.

+ Wild by Cheryl Strayed.  I'm actually almost done with it.  And it's so good.   It's the story of a woman's journey of loss, heartache, hard lessons, and overcoming as she hikes the Pacific Crest Trail.  I've recommended it to a few friends and am considering watching the movie when I'm done reading.

+ The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.  Over the last few years, several people have recommended this book to me.  So I looked into it.  And I love the idea behind the it....living out happiness intentionally.  It sounds like something I need to work on.

+ The Lake House by Kate Morton.  My younger sis recommended this one.  And she's a great recommender.  I always read what she likes and like what she reads.  Win win.

I'm sure I'll make changes as the summer progresses...I'll take one or two off the list and add others to it.  This summer, I'm planning to listen to audio books as well, that way I can still "read" and do all the mom things.  Like work on my tan.  Wait.  What?!?

Anything I should add or take off?? I'm always up for suggestions!

I'm still trying to bounce back from a college reading-hiatus :( I'm doing a summer book challenge but I still haven't read the first one on my list. UGH.

I'm almost finished with Cold Tangerines. I love everything Shauna writes. Isn't Wild amazing? It's such a good memoir.

Yes! I'm on there...I'm not very good at it, but I love to go on every now and then and see what people are reading.
