a day in the oily life || kids

I have oily babies.  Yep.  I've shared my love of oils with my kids and they both love them, too. Young Living's essential oils are perfectly safe to put on kids, even babies. I love that.  Many of the oils I apply directly to my 7 year old's skin, but there are some I dilute with coconut oil.

This book has been incredibly helpful for me as I use oils on my littles, but especially Jude (my 9 month old).  It was also so helpful while I was pregnant in knowing what oils were safe to use and which ones would help me with labor and delivery.

Today I want to focus on the oils I use on Claire, my 7 year old, but rather than me just telling you about the oils I use on her, I asked her to share about the oils she uses everyday, and here are her [unscripted] responses:

Lemon oils remind me of candy.  I put it in my water and it tastes good ( can't put lemon (or any citrus oils) in plastic water bottles, only glass!).  Lemon essential oil includes the naturally occurring constituent limonene. Lemon may also be used to enhance the flavor of foods.

When I have [annoying head irritations], Mommy puts peppermint oil on my forehead and it helps my head get better and it feels fizzy. Peppermint  is one of the oldest and most highly regarded herbs for supporting normal digestion, including promoting healthy intestinal function and gastrointestinal system comfort.

Everyday of the school year, Mommy puts Thieves on my feet before I put on my socks.  This oil keeps my immune system strong, even though I kinda like getting sick because I don't have to go to school and I get to watch a lot of movies.  Thieves® essential oil blend was inspired by the legend of four 15th-century French thieves who formulated a special aromatic combination composed of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals they used while robbing the dead and dying. Young Living’s one-of-a-kind Thieves blend, crafted in the spirit of that legendary combination, can be found in all of our Thieves products. When taken internally, Thieves supports healthy immune function, and it includes Eucalyptus radiata essential oil, which may help maintain a healthy respiratory system. When taken as a dietary supplement, Thieves is an ideal complement to a daily wellness regimen.

You get owies, you put lavender on.  Lavender has a sweet, floral aroma that is soothing and refreshing. Lavender’s aroma is great for relaxing and winding down before bedtime; add to bath or diffuse to create a calming and comforting environment. Lavender essential oil may compliment your favorite shampoos, lotions and skin care products. Because it is the most versatile of all essential oils, no home should be without it.

My morning oils has in it orange and clarity [it's a rollerbottle].  It helps me wake up and feel focused. My nighttime oils are White Angelica, RutaVaLa, and Cedarwood.  They're in a roller bottle so it's easy for me to put on at bedtime. White Angelica™ is a calming and soothing blend that encourages feelings of protection and security. It combines oils used during ancient times to enhance the body's aura, which brings about a sense of strength and endurance. Many people use it as protection against negative energy.  RutaVaLa promotes relaxation of the body and mind. It helps ease tension and relieve stress. The blend helps overcome negative feelings while encouraging a positive attitude and comfort.  Cedarwood essential oil’s woodsy, warm, balsamic aroma can be added to your favorite skin care products and applied topically. This essential oil includes sesquiterpenes and its powerful scent creates a relaxing, calming, and comforting atmosphere when diffused.

I like to take Mighty Vites [vitamins] once each day. They taste good and I know they're really good for me.  Using nutrient-dense whole food sources, the new MightyVites contain superfruits, plants and veggies that deliver the full-spectrum of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients for children's developing bodies. The new MightyVites chewable tablets feature an enhanced vitamin-mineral source and two new and improved natural flavors: orange cream and mixed berry.
I like oils because they help me.  Some of them smell really good.  Others [plugs nose]. [walks away to play with Legos].

Oh my gosh this is so CUTE! Glad you have found a way to get your kids to love oils as much as you do and integrate them into their daily routines! I love Claire's line "Although I kind of like getting sick because then I get to stay home and watch movies"-- too funny!

Haha...I know, my girl likes to keep it real! I had to include that part since she was being interviewed.:) And yes, we LOVE our oils...way better than OTC stuff.

This was so super cute ;) Sometimes I still feel that way about being sick... totally stinks but sometimes it's nice to have an excuse to stay in bed. (knock on wood, ha!)

Hahaha...if Claire had her way, she'd stay home everyday! It's actually something we're both praying for...homeschool. Super heavy on my heart, just hasn't been our time yet!! So...someday! :)

Thank you!! It was fun to interview her! She's so funny. She thinks everyone should use oils and totally doesn't get it when they don't! I hope you love WA. It smells amazing! One of my faves that I always have extra of.

Oooh! Home school!! I can't wait to talk to you about this!

(Also, ps- I meant to tell you- I got the flu not even 24 hours of posting that comment. Apparently the whole 'knock on wood' - when just typed and not actually done - doesn't work) ;)
